Við erum að leita að áhugasömum og sjálfstæðum nema í doktorsverkefni á Tilraunastöð Háskóla Íslands í meinafræði að Keldum. Verkefnið er fjármagnað til þriggja ára með styrk frá Rannís. Á Keldum er að unnið að rannsóknum á dýraheilbrigði/dýrasjúkdómum. Nemandinn yrði skráður við Læknadeild HÍ sem er hluti af Lífvísindasetri og GPMLS (graduated program in molecular and life sciences).

Íslenskir hestar sem fluttir eru út eru í mikilli hættu á að fá sumarexem, en það er IgE miðlað ofnæmi gegn ofnæmisvökum (próteinum) úr biti Culicoides tegunda sem lifa ekki hér á landi. Sumarexem er hvimleitt og sársaukafullt fyrir hestana sem og að vera alvarlegt vandamál fyrir íslenskan hrossaútflutning. Verkefnið snýr að áframhaldandi rannsóknum á exeminu með áherslu á þróun meðferðar og virkni bóluefnis.

We are looking for a highly motivated and independent student for a PhD project at the Institute for Experimental Pathology, University of Iceland, Keldur. Funding for the project is secured for three years. The research focus at Keldur is on animal health and diseases. The student would be registered at the faculty of Medicine, which is part of Biomedical Center (BMC) and Graduated Program in Molecular and Life Sciences (GPMLS).

Icelandic horses that are exported are at high risk to develop insect bite hypersensitivity (IBH). IBH is IgE-mediated allergy against allergens (proteins) from the bite of Culicoides spp., not endemic in Iceland. IBH is a severe animal welfare issue and a problem for the Icelandic horse export industry. The project will be a continuation of our research on IBH with the focus on developing a treatment and analyzing the effect of the experimental vaccine.
